Alipato Project is a nonprofit domestic violence resistance group. We defend survivors. We sue batterers. And we teach lawyers and law students how to do both.
We’re looking for a new flex-time lawyer to add to our team!
Job Description
We are seeking a Legal Co-Director to work primarily on behalf of survivors of domestic violence in tort actions against their batterers. The position involves the following duties:
- Representing plaintiffs in tort actions against their batterers
- Representing defendants in anti-SLAPP motions against their batterers
- Managing your own caseload
- Recruiting and working with volunteer attorneys
- Speaking on panels, teaching MCLE’s, hosting workshops for volunteer attorneys
Required Skills and Experience
- Active Membership in the California State Bar
- At least some trial experience
- Demonstrated legal research, writing, and oral advocacy experience
- Demonstrated commitment to economic justice
- Willingness to work in a worker self-directed nonprofit. (No bosses!)
- Time and task management
- Familiarity with Google Suite
- Comfort with regularly working independently and/or remotely
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with democratic group decision-making
- Fundraising experience
- Volunteer coordination
Employment Details

- Compensation: Currently, salary for flex-time staff is $24,960 per year.
- Flex Hours: You will be expected to work 10-30 hours per week, depending on the week (Aside from court dates, you ultimately decide your weekly schedule and workload)
- Paid Time Off: We have a “free time off policy,” which means there is no universal limit to paid time off during a calendar year. Each staff member has the opportunity and responsibility to take as much paid time off as they see fit, so long as they fulfill their roles and responsibilities to the organization.
